Well,
Regardless of how you felt about this election, there has to be some relief in it being over right? I just kept thinking all day yesterday "This has been going on for almost as long as my mission was..... could it all really end tonight...could we actually find out who will be the next president?"
I am so glad it wasn't another nasty "down to the hanging chads" type election. Regardless of whether you thought the nation was brainwashed or not, they have chosen a candidate.
I was thrilled at John McCain's gracious speech encouraging us all to move on now and support the majority by working hard to understand one another and to make sure we arise to the task at hand (which requires our full attention and support).
I cant help but think about the messages of our religious leaders at General Conference a few weeks ago. They were messages of hope and optimism. There was no talk of impending doom based on one candidate winning or another.
I am optimistic about our future under the leadership of our soon to be new president.

nicely said Jake. We support and move on for a great America.
great way to sum it up jake!
You are just the optimist aren't you Jake?! I agree though, lets move forward and help make this a great country!
Thanks Jake, I feel the same way. Regardless of who won or who we wanted to win, it's over and it's time to move on and support the president so that he can support us.
You are so wise Jake! I don't think enough can be said about that, because it doesn't matter who won we are all on the same bus now and we need to be behind the driver.
The important thing is that we were able to exercise a right afforded us by our founding fathers to select by popular majority a leader of the peoples choosing. having said that, i was not really big on either candidate, i voted my conscience and support our soon to be president. it is still our duty as citizens of this country to watch our elected leaders and make sure that they are doing the job we would like them to do, and if not fire them the next election. the 'R' or 'D' next to their name mean nothing to me, what matters is balance. the founders intended for there to be a slim majority which is why the legislative branch is called 'congress' not 'progress', they didn't want to much 'change' to what they accomplished. keep it simple stupid.. pray for Obama!
Thanks for the comments. The great thing about this election is that it really made people think. I think civic interest increased dramatically in the last year. That is immensley important in an era when i-pods and dancing celebrities tend to command the public's attention far more than local or national issues.
Always the pacifist! Good for you. I admit I wasn't totally thrilled about the results, but I echo what your brother said, I wasn't crazy about any of the candidates. And I'm not just talking about the choice between Obama and McCain. In fact, I wrote in Mitt Romney for president, even though I'm not overly impressed with him either. Regardless, I think we've seen the end of the days of presidents and other political leaders that capture the support of the majority. Unfortunately, I think they are all going to be the subject of ridicule and criticism. It's sad really, because I think the good people that should run will be discouraged.
Jake I really appreciate your optimism and positive outlook on this situation. Whether I agree with the choice our country has made, being angry or bitter will not help. We are a nation that supports our leaders and our government. You da man Jake!
