Simon and Simon...and Magnum

Last night Annie and I were flipping through channels and we stumbled upon a double blast from the past. It was an episode of Simon and Simon (which I hadn’t seen in over 20 years), but Higgins from Magnum PI was in it… not playing another role, he was playing Higgins. Then Thomas Magnum showed up! It was a combination episode where Magnum PI and the Simon brothers were trying to chase this Con artist (Morgan Fairchild) around. I have had the Simon and Simon theme music running through my head since. I can’t hear that music and not think of Josh.
Here is the mystery with these flashbacks: I don’t even know where our TV was in 1985… I have no recollection of WATCHING TV, but I have very clear images of plots and scenes from shows like Knight Rider, A-Team, Fall Guy, Air-Wolf, Greatest American Hero, Simon and Simon, Magnum PI and even Dallas. In my parent’s defense, I also have lots of memories from Mister Rogers, Today’s Special, Sesame Street and 321 Contact (not to mention that the majority of my memories of young life are of playing outside).
I feel sorry for kids today, whose memories will be of American Idol and CSI Miami…

Anyway…interesting…

maybe stranger is the fact that i remember almost nothing of those tv shows (minus the pbs ones). I guess even growing up in the same home can be different for different kids.

I loved Simon and Simon, and I stil love Magnum PI. They really don't make fun shows any more. I really don't watch Tv much anymore, just rent old stuff from the Library....more enjoyable. The Tv (when we had one working) was in the front room in 1985. But we had it in our bedroom, in the kitchen, at the top of the stairs ( Josh may be the only one to remember that one), in the spare bedroom, which is weird because we never really had a spare bedroom for more than a couple months. We may have had it downstairs at one point, but don't remember that.We didn't even have a TV for a couple years or there abouts. It was safer to let your kids watch back then... Ahhh those were the good old days. I miss good TV!!!

Don't forget the Incredible Hulk! You can never tire of watching Bill Bixby's eyes go green as he morphed into a green Lou Ferrigno, ripping a seemingly endless number of dress shirts and jeans along the way.

Rick Simon was my hero!! I found reruns of that show when I was in my early 20's and watched them all the time with Thayne, i turned him into a Simon and Simon fan!
i remember moms words once when i wanted to watch tv and she didn't want to let me, she said "You can watch simon and simon or little house on the praire.. thats it!" My other favorite show was The Fall Guy.."I might jump an open draw bridge..i might tarzan from a vine.." however i will bet that the favorite family show we watched together was Perfect Strangers.

Those were both the coolest shows. With the new Knight Ryder they were playing an old episode on TV the other day. It was pretty cool. To bad they don't make TV like that any more.
