A thought for a Friday

I just heard something that really strongly moved me, and I wanted to share it.

I was listening to a quick excerpt from the upcoming 60 minutes interview with the pilot for the airplane that was masterfully brought down into the Hudson, after striking birds.

Many of you may know this, but the Pilot is very experienced, having flown for the airforce and commercial flyers for the last 40 years. Coincidentally, he has a specialty in airline crisis situations. He has been a visiting expert at Berkley on the subject and is renowned for his capacity in this regard.

He said in the interview, and this is was struck me like a ton of bricks, "In many ways my whole life has been a preparation for that moment." The moment I heard that, the meaning of the idea emotionally overwhelmed me . It seems cheesy on the surface, but here are 150 people, mothers, brothers, fathers, friends, grandmothers, whose lives, futures, depended on this man being prepared for what could have EASILY taken the lives of each one of them.

What an amazing example of how God uses our talents to bless the lives of others, and how we should never shirk the responsibility develop those talents.

Well said my friend... I guess we never really know what tests and trials will be before, but we can be sure that all our experiences leading up to them are for our benefit and give us strength to get through... not to mention the talent needed to get through.

I just got chills reading that--the good kind.
Thanks for the reminder. I guess our job is to stay in tune and listen, so we make the choices that bring us to the place we need to be, at the time we need to be there.

I didn't watch this interview, but have my own personal touch with this story, and it is of the 'nature' of the world. this guy is a hero, and one of the first things i heard about the situation was that he was being drug tested. i thought 'this man has just saved the lives of 150 people, by staying remarkably calm and using his extensive training' and the first thing you want to do is drug test him?? i am glad he is getting the respect he deserves.

What a great moment for that pilot- to see a real tangible purpose for his life's work. I think we all have passions, hobbies, interests that we feel are god given and define us. reading your post- i further believe that when we put in time work effort and allow inspiration to guide us- we have the power to do great good by just doing the things that we find ourselves drawn to in life. i guess i'll have to check out that 20/20

You know, it's kind of like one of those Night Shyamalan movies where everything comes together in the last 5 minutes, except they made this a movie it would be way more interesting than one of his movies.

That episode 60 Minutes was so powerful and inspiring that it brought me to tears. Not only is Sully a hero to the passengers but also to me and all of New York City.

Three cheers for Sully! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!
