Annie is outdoing herself these days. When I first saw that the Moody Blues were coming to Eugene, I made a decision. I had seen them several times, there were other things we could use the money for, I was going to convince myself that they could come to town and I would not NEED to see them. For those who don't know, the Moody Blues are my favorite band, have been since I was in junior high.
Anyway as the concert got closer, I started having dreams where Justin Hayward (lead singer for the Moodies) would be looking at me all disappointed-like. Because Eugene's "hippie per capita is so high," it also seemed that everyone was talking about it. But I was going to be strong. But I wasn't counting out a miracle.
I came home from work yesterday and Annie had left me a surprise: Two tickets to the show!!!! So now I just needed to figure out who to take... just kidding. I was so excited. Suddenly, we were going to the show!
The temperature was 9,000 degrees all night, but we brought a water bottle with us and kept cool. Eugene came out in all of its counter-cultural flare. Most of the time I struggled with the predicament of whether to watch my life-long musical idols... or to watch the gyrating inebriated hippies (all senior citizens mind you). It was very entertaining.
The show was great! They still sound fantastic and played some of my favorites: "Are you Sitting Comfortably," "Driftwood," "Story in your Eyes." It was a classic time!
Thanks Annie

i have been "in search of the lost chord" for decades now! i had my moody blues moments while in high school, though i really enjoyed them (the moody blues) it was all the 'drug crowd' that seemed to be listening to them...we kept switching between that album and Songs you Know by Heart - jimmy buffet when i went to florida with my friend and his dad. it was epic.
How did you get yourself in that Moody Blues band picture? You know, on the far left.
What a wonderful cute wife you have!!!!!! She is such a keeper. Glad you enjoyed yourselves. Mom
I'm so jealous. My only opportunity to see the moodies we conveniently had a lokalgrown show that same night... two blocks away... by a window overlooking the Delta center....
but i'm sure my day will come :)
