Greatest Moments

I have decided to incorporate on ongoing entry series. It will be a space filler. You know when you open your blog and you see that same picture that has been there for a while... and your thinking... I really need to put something else up... but nothing has happened in the last two weeks.... Well this is my solution. My greatest moments. I promise they won't be nauseating or boastful, just a quick reflection on wonderful moments, memories, experiences. They will be quick to post and hopefully will keep the blog fresh. These will be in no particular order mind you.

Moment: Summers on the Wheeler Ranch in Monticello, Utah. For about three or four summers in a row when I was teenager I would go down to my cousins house outside of Monticello, Utah (South of Moab)for 3-4 weeks. This was nirvana to a 15-18 year old with itchy feet. My cousin Keith and I were incredibly close. We spent a good portion of our time working really hard. But every additional moment was spent inventing, exploring and just goofing around. We had sooo much fun. Now that I am working and my life is fairly regimented. I look back on those summer days in southeastern Utah, the mornings discussing the adventures we would have that day, the unbelievably blue sky, Horsehead Peak and the Abajo Mountains to the west, the La Sal mountains to the north, the San Juan Mountains of Colorado to the east, Montezuma Creek to the south, the moonlit nights on our favorite rock talking about the future, even the really hard work we did, and I recognize that my life would have a serious void without that experience. There are moments I ache to have that freedom and youthful optimism again.

Those Wheeler's really seem to have an incredible effect on people. I remember watching video of you and Keith and laughing my butt off.

Hi Jake and Annie, Steve here, just wanted to say hi. I read your last post, googled Lokalgrown, and have been listening for the past 1/2 hour or so. What a great sound! It had been a while since I had my Lokalgrown fix - I feel much better now.

Hope all's well-
steve

Don't overlook the significance of your love for this region. Just living in the area with it's geographic wonders and big spaces has a big effect on that optimism and vitality you spoke of.

You guys should definitely look at moving back to the Wild West...preferably within a day's drive of Montrose : )

In the meantime, give our love to Eugene.

It is so great that you got to have that kind of experience. I really want that kind of thing for my kids--especially the working really hard part. I think there is something so great about having hard work to do, and then the freedom of play and exploration--nothing better for crazy boys. So, I will plan on sending Eli out to your house in 4 or 5 years--be thinking of some good, hard work--the exploring part will come naturally to both of you!
