13 Years Later...

Well I guess I had better put something else up quick since my last entry didn't manage to garner much of a response (the proofs in the puddin). Maybe this one will be more interesting...maybe not. I received, in a mailed letter from my parents this week, a fun surprise. No it wasn't money, no it wasn't a lost picture of me with Gordon Lightfoot, no it wasn't legal proof that I am not their child... it was rather a simple card, upon which I had written long and short term goals for myself in January of 1996. At the time I was halfway through my junior year in High School. I had gone on one or two dates (group dates mind you), hadn't thought much about college (that I remember), was taking German II and hating it! Was taking Geometry (as a junior in high school...yikes). Anyway, here we are thirteen years later. I did pretty well. I may not be respectable in ALL aspects, but I am respectable in many....

Thanks to my Priest Quorum adviser Ken Kirkman, for keeping this and sending it along.

Jake

Well, I think you've managed to achieve most of those. I can't really speak to how well you saved your money back in high school, but you seem to have reached all of your long-term goals.

it is interesting that I think most people end up accomplishing a lot of what they really set their mind to. especially the things that are in their control. i have heard that putting goals in writing helps make them come true- because you begin to really visualize their reality and soon every choice you make leads you to that reality. this post makes me wonder.. is the time for list making past for us (those of us that are married, on a career path, done with the spazy "anything is possible" days of youth)? I am going to make a list. because I believe what Oprah said, " You are built not to shrink down to less, but to blossom into more". It seems to me the best is yet to come- if i set out to achieve it.

I like short term goal #8- stay old fashion. How funny! That's fun to see all the things you've accomplished. Especially meeting that nice girl.

so which ones didn't you achieve?

i wish more people would add #3 to their short-term goals. lol
Goes to show - as a man thinketh...

My favorite is long term #8--be respectable in many aspects. The "in many aspects" just sort of cracked me up, though I certainly think you have accomplished it!

That really is a cool thing to receive in the mail after so much time. *I can't believe you are that old--and that I am older than you!

not freaking out in B-ball games....wow, that was profound. i wish i had learned that trait years before i actually did. nice lists jacob. you truly accomplished most if not all of those things. i too took Geometry as a junior in high school, i actually loved Geometry, it was Trigonometry the next year that killed me!! way to have lived well to this point! keep it up

Hi Jake! Do you remember me? I'm the eldest of the Bernier gang! I was also a huge fan during the Lokalgrown days! I just discovered your blog through Lory's blog! It's great to see you are living pretty much the life of your dreams! I hope all of the things you continue to dream, continue to come true. Take care!

Your post was very inspiring! Thanks for sharing it with us. I think that writing down your goals definitly helps you achieve them. There is some great information about goal setting in the Preach My Gospel book.Great job in accomplishing your goals, I like the old fasion one too!

Hey, that was a pretty cool experience. It shows that writing goals and dreams down really is essential it actually achieving them. It is cool to see how well you have done. It inspires me to again make a new goals list for myself and see where I am at in 10-15 years. Take care.
