Ok I dont really do this, but I have got to share my thoughts:
Talk about an economic mess, Huh?
I have been trying to figure how I feel about all of this economci crisis stuff. The more I learn about the reasons for the failure of these financial institutions, and the more I hear about what we have to do to solve it.... the more frustrated I get. I mean, how frustrating is it to think that because financial institutions overextended their own credit, (because of their own competitiveness and mob-mentality optimism), or because developers just kept building because records were being broken and money was being made, or because lenders were giving home loans to people who didnt even have jobs, we now have to bear the financial burden of their mistakes (or dare I say greed). It seems like a good example of the pride cycle in our day. We get this momentum of providence, and start thinking that we are immortal, that the basics (thinking of the public good, living within our means, or the reality that lunch is rarely if ever free) somehow don't apply anymore. Then we get burned. To me its another unfortuante example of the unfortunate fact that business in America needs babysitters. Not philosophically, but practically. Are there 14 year olds who are capable of driving a car? Yeah probably, but practically speaking it would be insanity to let all 14 year olds drive because too many of them are not mature enough to handle it. You want to trust that 14 year old, because it would be more efficient if he could drive himself, and you didn't have to think about it at all... but the little turd keeps driving into telephone poles.
I am sure I am oversimplifying it. But for me it seems like part of this is a misunderstanding of entitlement. Your entitled to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Hapiness. It seems we've forgotten how rare an opportunity we have in the USA to achieve these rights, and how few in the world achieve them in their simplest forms. It seems that we have decided to inflate the interpretation of those rights to include some pretty bold things. I wont list them, just think about your own. Do we need to remind ourselves that we must earn what we have, and if the money or gain we are accruing seems too easily achieved... mabe it is...maybe we need to investigate how its really happening, who is ultimately paying the price for it?
Whew..... Ok I feel better now.

wow, that was great. a couple of highlights, first of all i think that the legal driving age should be 18, there are plenty of 16 year old 'turds' driving in to telephone poles, or staring straight ahead whilst changing lanes, but i digress...sort of. What we need to do is elect Jacob Lathel Callister president of the united states, then with my behind the scenes help, we could truly 'change' the political paradigm. imagine your leader actually telling you the truth and not caring what anybody else thought! That was some rant Jake. Though I can't say that I really disagree with you. I think it's crap that the government keeps bailing out these companies and mortgage companies because they are just drawing out the problem. It seems like a cold solution, but by letting these people and companies that got in over their heads suffer the consequences of their actions, the market would suffer in the short term, but would correct itself more quickly than what we're doing now. But, I don't think we can blame any one party. Lots of entities contributed to the problem.
Sadly, what I think sometimes is that this country needs a serious reboot, both politically, and socially.
Amen Brother!!!! We'll vote for you too :)
entitlement. I think it is the plague of our generation. We pursue happiness- but often that turns into self indulgence and selfishness- do we just not know where true happiness comes from? We want a chance for ourselves and our families to live- but life itself isn't enough- we want to the high life the lush life.
My Indian friend and i were talking about house sizes, cars, schools, etc. she said" there is just so much to want in america -everyone trying to buy the perfect life"
We want liberty. but i agree that we all sometimes need checks and balances to guide our freedom.
The thing is, you can't make someone act with a concience. You can't force a whole country to change the way it's wired.
None of us want someone to tell us what to do...
and yet we all are looking for answers
AMEN!!
oh yea, and we miss you guys!!
Wow Jake, I don't know so much about the big companies, but, Angie Deb Dad and I went to the parade of homes here in Salt lake. It was fun to see some of the new things available for homes and was pretty fun over all. But there were some of the homes that were so over the top with things and more things and even more things that people really don't need. Actually they are things that people should not have, in my opinion!!! We truly came away feeling kinda sick that there are those that feel they should have those things. A TV in the wall of every room, including bathrooms. One home had a room with 3 Tvs side by side so you could watch 3 different shows (games) at the same time. Showers bigger than my whole bedroom with 10 shower heads. One home had a pirate ship with a slide build in (with a tv of coarse) for the kids. Fun, but in two weeks they would get bored with it and you can't keep topping that. The interesting thing is that in one neighborhood the homes all cost 5 million or more, and after a year of living in them we found that at least 1/3 of them are up for sale.... over extending is very common all over, not just big companies. We need to realize that there are very few things in this life we actually need. The rest is just simply "more than we need" mom
Some very interesting comments here.
For me, the fact is that very few people act as citizens of a society. I'm not sure of the correct pyscological terminolgy of this, but the phenomonen can most easily be demonstrated by "Rubbernecking".
We all know that "Rubbernecking" causes tailbacks, yet it seems no ONE individual can resist taking a peek. If more people understood more fully their influence on other's behaviour and acted accordingly, you'd have a fairer society.
Have the courage to act individually for the good of others.
From an outsider's perspective, I don't see any appetite for a more social Government or political agenda in America though.
Thanks for your thoughts buddy. The hard part about this whole thing is that darn thing called agency. People get the chance to make mistakes and screw up and it sucks but it's the oldest battle we've been fighting for...our freedom to choose. The other hard part is the lost concept and understanding of the proper role of government. The government is not supposed to get involved in business affairs or dictate what kind of loans we can get or if we can get them at all.
People should try to be smart...if you can't handle a mortgage on a big house, don't get one....or produce more so that you can afford it.
I love what's being said here about entitlement....it's a curse. Needs? What we "need" is air, food, water and shelter...everything else is a want. If we choose to have more or bigger it's our decision to make...if that decision bombs on us hopefully we are the only ones that have to clean up that mess. Otherwise, I would hope that we would respect the right to choose for ourselves and get out of the middle of the road. You are one smart dude Jake Callister.
Note to self....
People are more interested in politically seasoned blog comments than they are in reviews of dollar movies....
Thanks for the comments everyone. I love your thoughts!

Welfare for Wall Street. Wall Street tells government to leave them alone when times are good, but when things go bad they beg for welfare.
One thing I think we have lost sight of is that this earth is not our home, and one day we will leave this place and that shower with ten heads cant come with us.
