The Enigma with the Stigma

At the risk of further alienating myself from mainstream America I am choosing to make another bold statement.
The Bee Gees are indeed an "enigma with a stigma." This incredibly talented group of brothers (Brothers Gibb)reached iconic status for their contributions to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, and as a result became the involuntary banner carriers of the new "disco" sound.
What is often and TRAGICALLY ignored is the INCREDIBLE music this group made long before the disco era ever began (l967-73). There songs, in my opinion, were some of the best ballads and melodies written at that time. I have attached some clips of their earlier stuff for those interested. Those of you not interested can continue in the false belief that the Bee Gees were simply a "disco group." I have also deemed 12:00-1:00 today "Bee Gees appreciation lunch hour"

So I was at my cousin's wedding last week (on my mom's side) and both Jenn and I kept saying how much we really liked the band. So Jenn went and asked for their contact info and was very surprised when they told her they were Lokal Grown! Small world. But as a heads up, I think you may have a few more weddings to play at in the Barlow family, we were all very impressed!

I don't even know what to say,,,, how both of my brothers grew up in the same house as me and went so tragically wrong in their music tastes, will befuddle me for the ages.. j/k at the risk of sounding 'uneducated' i must admit that i only know the Bee Gees as the leaders of the disco movement. so i will not comment on any 'other' music they may have done. but the disco was never my favorite music at all.

What blows my mind is their talent for writing music - I couldnt' believe all of the songs they wrote that other people made famous.
