Let us pause and celebrate a “D”-Day less globally recognized, but with similar positive outcomes: June 6, 1983. On this day, Maureen Callister brought a fifth child into the world, Daniel James Callister.
Four siblings awaited at home to hear word of there new sibling. 3 year old Jacob was hopeful that Dan would be born on his birthday… as was expected. Seeing Dan at the hospital was also one of Jacob’s first memories.
The years that ensued were all we could hope for from young Chubbalubba a.k.a “Chub.” Here are a few of the reasons why it is joy that Dan is a part of my life and one I call not just brother… but “Yon Bruder…..Ah!”
1. Dan was always as silly as I ever was and together we cultivated some serious nonsense (somehow he got over that…. I never was able to).
2. I have confirmed this with countless people, it is official. Dan has one of those benchmark personalities. In his case this means that if you can get him to genuinely laugh at something… you can take that to the bank… it is indeed funny. Many have tried and failed.
3. Dan is incredibly talented. Dan has creative capacity that knocks my socks off. His art and comics were always so smart and clever, his songs are beautiful, simple and profound and I have always been envious of his ability to develop proficiency with an array of instruments.
4. I respect Dan’s musical taste and am pleased that we share a certain affinity for classic rock and other variations thereon. There aren’t many people that will reciprocate my excitement over a Poco record found at a thrift store, or a lost version of some Stephen Stills tune.
5. Dan is the real deal. Dan is not a people pleaser. This characteristic sometimes has a negative stigma, but God bless the people who you can count on to not mislead you with the nonsense of overflattery. I value Dan’s opinion.
6. I respect Dan’s efforts in overcoming his own challenges. I am always touched and motivated by those who swim against a current.
Anyway. I want to wish Dan a Happy Birthday. For all of the reasons mentioned above and many others. I am sure you all will agree, he is a pretty great guy!
Happy “D”-Day
Jake

Dan was a joy as a baby, as a little boy and as an adault I love to have him around. I enjoy his wit and humor and totally agree with everything that Jake has said. His art was something that he was always doing as a little guy and continues to display that talent. You should see his card game he made...it is very well done. HIs music continues to amaze me, and I know I haven't heard even 1/2 of what he has done. (Sorry Dan for not giving you piano lessons.) He certainly is a blessing to our family and I love him so much. Mom
