A happy family we met in Peru 2003, standing in front of their mud hut
I watched a 20/20 last night that was really interesting.
It wasn't long enough to really get into it, but it was a great introduction to the idea of how we can improve levels of Happiness. It contains a lot of things that we would consider very true principles. Some of the most impressive things to me were the following ideas:
1. Money only makes you happy if you a) Spend it well or b) have more of it than anyone else around you.
2. Denmark is the "happiest" country in the world. This is largely because of: a) trust in their society/government (what seems to be deserved), and a generally much lower regard for material things. They pay the highest taxes of any nation in the world! Garbage men, and other blue collar workers live in middle class homes and there seems to be a general respect for all occupations and their essential roles in society. (Kind of where we used to be... if you think about it) They have a very strong social fabric, and it is argued that that is one reason they are happier.
Anyway, that just the part that was most interesting to me. There was a lot of great info etc. Read the online synopsis if you have a second.... or if you just dont have room for any more happiness, dont worry about it.....

they are happy in Denmark because they are drugged out of their minds on legal marijuana, and opiates.
i just wanted to say that what makes me happy is reading josh's comments on everyone's blogs. :) ~ angie
i love stuff like this. I think there is so much that we subconsciously do that robs us of our peace of mind and happiness. sometimes we need to hear someone remind us where true joy is.
The older I get the less important things are, and the more important people are and the contrubution they give in what ever they do. I think those that work with their hands have so much to offer and are thought of less for some reason. One day it will all even out. Working hard, and being with family and living the best you can. That is true happiness!!
